Hey, friend! Happy fake Monday! It's time for another exciting
Spam Resource newsletter.

Over the weekend, I realize that it has been six
years since I first attempted to configure my main email domains with a
DMARC setting of p=reject. And of course, I fumbled that
first try. But it's fun to look back at those first steps and
compare that with where I am today, working with Valimail and
sharing in their goal of helping email senders secure their
domains safely while being careful not to damage deliverability.
What a fun ride it's been! (And continues to be.)

There have been a lot of twists and turns in my career over the years.
Whatever my job, I would always try to do the right thing and be kind
to people –- like that one time I gave up my seat to an elderly
 person on the bus.
And that’s how I lost my job as a bus driver. Ah well.

Have a great (short) week!
Be aware: DKIM L=Tag Exploit
On Friday, May 17, 2024, security researchers from ZONE published
details of a vulnerability inherent to the DomainKeys Identified Mail
(DKIM) email authentication protocol – one that can allow bad guys to
take existing messages, modify or add content significantly, and
re-inject those messages into the email stream and have them still pass ...

SFMC tip: Sending as the top level domain in Marketing Cloud
Not only did I stumble across this when reviewing Chris Zullo's capture
and notes on my "Deliverability 201” domain and IP strategy deck for
SFMC users, but it came up when consulting for a client recently. I
thought it would be fun to capture and share this scenario, to help the
   next person who comes along.

What’s up with AMP for Email in 2024?
Wondering what’s up with AMP for Email? Email interactivity was a
tricky thing to design and implement, and there were lots of hurdles
and concerns along the way. But I was (and am) a fan, as I can see the
value in it, even at the simplest level – I recall being amazed when I
could approve a Google Docs share request without leaving my inbox, an ...

DMARC (and me!) in the news lately
It's great to see folks writing about DMARC and how important it is to

Play the lottery? Check your spam folder!
Oof, stories like this one make me want to cry. Sounds like emails from
the Michigan Lottery were going to the spam folder. Hey, whoever's in
charge of that, my recommendation would be to test for spam folder
issues regularly, and do what you need to do to shore up engagement and
inbox placement. Otherwise, we could end up with another winner not ...

Blocking emails to role accounts: Good idea? (Updated for 2024)
Do you block email signup attempts from role accounts? If not, I think
   you should consider it.
What's a role account, you might ask? It's an email that has a username
part (the part to the left of the @ sign) that is commonly reserved for
either a system function or administrative role.

What constitutes a transactional message?
A bonus article from the archives (Wednesday, May 25, 2022)
"Is this message transactional, or is it commercial?" That's a question
I get asked quite regularly as a deliverability consultant. Note that I
am not a lawyer, so I can't give you legal advice. I can, however,
provide my layman's interpretation and encourage you to investigate for
yourself, suggest to you where you need to look, and you can throw it ...
